Are you in Amman on a Friday and looking for a nice market where you can buy lots of souvenirs and delicious food and drinks? Then pay a visit to the Jara Market! In this article you will find information about this cozy market!

Jara Market (Souk Jara) Amman

The Jara Market, also called Souk Jara, is a weekly free market where people sell handmade products. The souk was founded in 2004 by the inhabitants of Jabal Amman to keep the souk culture alive and to give local designers space to promote and sell their creations. The Jara Market is not only popular among tourists, but also among locals. There is something for everyone! It’s a great place for children to have fun as well, because there’s a special play area.

The market has handmade jewelry, works of art, phone covers, antiques and much more. Do you like to cook? Then the Jara Market is also the place to be, because there are many stalls with aromatic herbs. If you get hungry from thinking about all the dishes you are going to prepare with those herbs, you’ll find a kind of food court at the end of the market. Here are several food and drink stalls, where you can order Jordanian specialties. Enjoy falafel, a stuffed and roasted potato, fresh fruit juices and much more.

Practical information

Souk Jara is open on Friday between mid-May and the end of September from 10:00h in the morning until 10:00h in the evening. If there is a show or band playing, the market may stay open a little longer. If you want to visit Souk Jara, you don’t have to pay an entrance fee!

The market can be found in a side street of Rainbow Street, namely Fawzi Al-Maalouf Street.
