Seychelles is a paradise archipelago in Africa, primarily known for its pristine beaches and turquoise waters. It’s an absolute must-visit destination for beach lovers. In this article, I’ll discuss the ten best beaches in Seychelles that you simply cannot miss!
Table of Contents
1. Cote d’Or Beach
Cote d’Or Beach is a long, white-sand beach located on the northern coast on Praslin. It’s one of the island’s most popular beaches because of the many guest houses, restaurants, and take aways nearby. The beach is nestled in a bay, making the water calm and perfect for swimming.
Tip: Don’t miss the iconic hanging palm tree on the beach. It’s a fantastic photo opportunity! Find its exact location here.
9. Anse Cocos
Located on La Digue surrounded by stunning palm trees, Anse Cocos features the iconic granite boulders the Seychelles is famous for. You’ll find a cute little bar serving delicious, fresh drinks and a photogenic swing where you can relax.
Please note: The sea here is quite rough with strong undercurrents, making it unsafe for swimming.
8. Anse Georgette
Anse Georgette is an idyllic beach located on the grounds of the luxurious Constance Lumeria resort on Praslin. While the beach is part of the resort, it’s open to the public, so even if you’re not staying there, you can visit. It’s about a half-hour walk from the resort’s entrance. Be aware that the path is not completely flat and has some elevation changes.
Anse Georgette is situated in a bay, making the water calm and perfect for swimming. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some turtles!
7. Beau Vallon Beach
Located in the northwest of the main island on Mahé, you’ll find Beau Vallon Beach, one of the most popular beaches on the island. Beau Vallon Beach is a long, sandy beach situated in a bay, making it perfect for swimming. The beach is surrounded by cute restaurants, take aways, and bars, creating a lively atmosphere.
Tip: Enjoy a stunning sunset from Beau Vallon Beach!
6. Caiman Beach
On the east coast of La Digue, you’ll find Anse Caiman (Caiman Beach), a beautiful beach with a really cool beach bar and very nice owner.
To get there, follow the Anse Caiman trail from Grand Anse. This hiking trail is 2.25 kilometers one way and takes about 1.5 hours to complete, depending on how often and how long you stop along the way.
Please note: There are also strong undercurrents here, making it unsafe for swimming.
Close to the beach, you’ll find the Caiman Rock Pool, a natural tidal pool surrounded by granite formations. The calm waters of this pool provide a perfect spot to relax.
5. Anse Royale Beach
Anse Royale Beach is located on Mahé and is situated on the southeast coast of the island. It’s a pretty white sand beach and has clear blue water. There are a few huge granite rocks on the beach as well.
Situated within a sheltered bay, Anse Royale offers calm waters perfect for swimming and relaxation. The clear waters make it an ideal spot for snorkeling, where you can encounter many colorful fish.
4. Anse Lazio
Anse Lazio is an extensive white-sand beach situated on the northwest coast of Praslin. The beach is surrounded by beautiful palm trees and the water is a stunning turquoise color. At both ends of the beach, you’ll find huge granite rocks, perfect for some great photos.
There are a few small bars on the beach where you can buy drinks.
Anse Lazio is free to visit, but if you come by car, you’ll have to pay for parking. We paid about 7 euros for the whole day.
3. Petite Anse Lazio
Just a short hike from Anse Lazio, you’ll find a small, secluded beach surrounded by palm trees and granite rocks called Petite Anse Lazio. This little paradise is one of our favorite beaches in Seychelles, especially because it’s great for snorkeling. We’ve spotted several turtles here!
Petite Anse Lazio isn’t a beach for sunbathing and relaxing. It’s too small for that. At high tide, there’s barely any sand left, so try to visit at low tide.
The beach can be reached via a short 10-minute hike from Anse Lazio. You’ll find the starting point of the hike here. The entrance to the trail can be a bit hard to find, so you might have to search for it a bit.
Tip: Get there early! This beach is at its best when you have it all to yourself!
2. Anse Major
Anse Major is a beautiful beach that can be reached by boat or hike. In our opinion, it’s the most beautiful beach on Mahé.
Hiking to Anse Major
From the start of the trail, it takes about 30 to 45 minutes to hike to the beach. Along the way, you can enjoy fantastic views. Be aware: the trail has quite a bit of elevation change. This, combined with the hot sun and high humidity, can make it a pretty tough hike at times.
Tip: Make sure you leave for Anse Major early, so it’s not too crowded on the beach. We left at 8:00 am and had the entire beach to ourselves for the first half hour. This makes the beach even more beautiful!
1. Anse Source d’Argent
Often hailed as the most beautiful beach of the world, Anse Source d’Argent is located in La Digue and is situated on the grounds of L’Union Estate. The beach is one of the world’s most iconic and photogenic beaches, boasting a stunning white sand beach and surrounded by countless granite rock formations.
A popular activity is renting a clear-bottom kayak. You can paddle along the coast and enjoy beautiful views of the beach and take some Instagram-worthy pictures!
If you want to visit Anse Source d’Argent, you have to pay an entrance fee (we paid 150 SCR per person).
Tip: L’Union Estate is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We visited the beach right after opening (as the first ones) and just before sunset (as one of the last ones). Both times, we had the beach almost to ourselves!
Are the beaches in the Seychelles free to visit?
Yes! Almost all beaches in Seychelles are free to visit. Some beaches can only be reached via resort property, but they all allow you access, since there are no private beaches in Seychelles. The only beach you have to pay an entrance fee for is Anse Source d’Argent, as you have to pay to enter L’Union Estate.
Best time to visit Seychelles for beach lovers
Planning a trip to Seychelles? It’s a good idea to research the best time to go.
Generally, April, May, October, and November are considered the months with the highest chance of good weather. However, keep in mind that you’re on a tropical island, so even during these months, it can rain occasionally. Fortunately, the rain is usually warm and doesn’t last long.
The wet season in the Seychelles runs from mid-November to March. These months typically have the most rainfall, but you can still have plenty of sunny days. This is often the best time for surfing and sailing, as there’s more wind.
